Collegiate Conference and Events Professionals Honored for Outstanding Achievement

Collegiate conference and events professionals were recognized for their achievements at the ACCED-I 28th Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV. These individuals and institutions have demonstrated high achievement in the field of collegiate conference and event planning and were recognized during the Association’s awards banquet on March 10, 2008. ACCED-I award recipients include:

Outstanding New Conference and Events Professional Award - Andrew (Drew) Newton, assistant director of Conference Services, Longwood University
Outstanding Institutional Achievement Award - University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC received the Outstanding Institutional Achievement Award for their in successfully managing the 2007 College Democrats of America (CDA) Convention.
Mentor of the Year - Fred Gizzo, assistant director of Conferences/Operations, Wheaton College
Volunteer of the Year Award - Jack Raab, director, UCLA Events Office
Session of the Year Award - Kimberly Araya, director of Conference and Event Services, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities; Lisa Salazar, CCEP, coordinator of Event Services, Lewis University; Dorothy (Dottie) Warner, director of Event Planning & Holland Union Building, Dickinson College; and Laura Aikey, training and implementation manager, Kinetic Software, Inc.

Salary Survey

The results are in! This fall ACCED-I partnered with a team from George Washington University, College of Business, Tourism Management Department to execute a salary survey specific to the collegiate conference and events industry. The study, administered by graduate students, included a pilot survey in preparation for the final survey. The results shed light on compensation as it relates to job titles, geography and other factors as well as some comparative data within the industry to the extent it is available.
